What exactly is within the remit of the hospice.?

Who takes responsibility for the care of the patient within the hospice. is it part of the responsibility of hospice staff to help family to understand the process. i would like in to know if hospice has any responsibilities with regard to patient care when leaving the facility ie to spend some time at home. are staff expected to liaise with hospital staff with regard to ongoing care eg blood transfusions.|||The remit of the Hospice is to provide palliative care, which means that it is recognised that the patient is in a terminal phase of their lives and all active treatment of the terminal disease is stopped. Therefore, no more chemotherapy or drugs to try and effect a cure. The responsibility for the management of symptoms rests with the Medical Director - a specialist Doctor in Palliative Care. Along with the very skilled staff, the patients symptoms - pain, nausea, breathlessness etc. - will be managed.

If a patient wishes to be cared for at home, then there are Marie Curie Nurses, District Nurses and the the local hospice may well have an outreach team to support the patient and their family. Medical care returns to the family doctor, with advice available from the Hospice staff. Blood transfusions, if appropriate, can be done as a day admission, They are not usually done at home.

Does this answer all your questions?|||One a person enters Hospice it is because they have decided to no longer pursue treatments for whatever condition they have. They have decided basically to let nature take it's course and now palliative care is the focus. Most of the same tests, procedures and treatments they have been receiving in the hospital are now discontinued with the exception of their maintenance drugs and procedures. The goal is comfort not treatment. When sending the person home they always have staff to come over and provide nursing care at home. The hospice has representatives that will come to your home to educate you on the process.|||idk
