Painter & decorator remit - advice needed please!?

Hi! If a decorator quotes for a painting job (拢600 for kitchen %26amp; bathroom), is it reasonable to expect that he would prepare all surfaces/fill in cracks %26amp; holes %26amp; sand uneven plasterwork as part of his role? They've started today %26amp; not done any of this having undercoated the walls and put half the colour on (no preparation of woodwork yet either!). I would be really grateful for any advice, thanks.|||Have you got a written quote stating exactly whats to be done? It should read something like this....

Sand existing paintwork, make good and fill using a suitable filler where necessary, apply 2 coats of clients choice of colour etc....

Or at least when they came round to discuss it with you.

Even if they didnt, they must be cowboys not to at least do any prep, and TBH, you should have questioned thier methods when they started painting without doing any prep.

I would ask them why they havent done any prep, and tell them you are not satisfied, and hold back some of the money.|||Thankyou for choosing my answer.

|||I think so...... my decorator done my whole house, sanding, the lot (and a very good job he done to) for 拢800 and my house is not small.

I would want a top class job for that price!|||did you get any thing in writing as to what they were supposed to do|||they should fill in all cracks, holes as well as smoothing the uneven plaster and prime the wall and woodwork before painting. You should have gotten a written contract as to what you expected them to do.|||Hope you didn't pay them yet. The definitely need to prep everything before painting.|||I am a painter there are many customers like landlords who just paint but say just paint this .This should have been discussed and worked into price tell them to stop now !! run to Home depot or where ever and buy a small amount of premixed light joint compound if you don't have many holes nails holes dinks etc if you have actual holes any bigger than your fist you will also need netted tape they are painters and should have knives to spread it if not 1 buck for plastic one materials shouldn't be to bad 20 bucks add 30 bucks to price of job so 50 bucks more but they will probably have to come back tomorrow if you can avoid this better offer lunch and or beer most painters will stay for this also dries quickly and fine sand paper make sure they sand it good ,run Your hand over it the area should be flush with wall .Then make sure they prime it so paint matches and does not peel 600 for both is a fairly good price depending on where you are and how big good luck|||I FIND THAT THE WORK YOU HAVE REQUIRED, IS PART OF ANY PROFESSIONAL JOB..ESPICALLY PAINTERS..IF THEY ARE PROFESSIONALS THEY KNOW THIS..PREPERATION IS A MUST IF THEY TOOK ALOOK AT THE JOB THEY WOULD INCLUDE THIS INTO THERE WORK..SO YOU NEED TO LET THEM KNOW THIS..ANY TIME I HAVE DONE PAINT WORK FOR ANY ONE ,THIS IS PART OF THE JOB TO ASSURE THAT THE WALLS AND TRIM LOOK VERY NICE AND NEAT AND SMOOTH..HAPPY CUSTOMERS ARE HAPPY AND YOU GET TO WORK FOR THEM AGAIN!!!!!|||yes they should have done all prep 1st...im a decorator
