I have used someone else's bank account to remit money to the Philippines without the bank account owner's knowledge. She eventually saw these transactions in her bank statement and reported it in the bank. They have traced my name and the bank reported me to the remittance agency.

Why the government is asking donations from the public ?
The government is not running charitable institutions. The government is not a private institution. There is a meaning for the private runners of institutions, but i find no meaning, but i feel some meaning which i don't know. For the last two weeks, I have been working for a small company in New York City (Manhattan) doing some consulting work and am unsure as to whether I need to charge my client sales-tax for services rendered. What has made the NPS, one of the most advanced and cost-effective schemes, such a non-starter? Here are some key reasons.
Access. We receive several queries from readers on how to subscribe to this scheme. This is surprising, especially when most banks, including bigwigs such as State Bank of India and Axis Bank, are already acting as points of sale for it. One of the reasons is that there is no direct incentive for people selling the scheme.
"Due to lack of participation by service providers, NPS has not reached out to the masses. We are looking at providing direct incentives of fixed nature to people selling it," says N.R. Rayalu, chief executive of the NPS Trust.
Complex mechanism. Electronic clearing system (ECS) is not available at all the points of presence (POPs). Currently, only a handful of them, including CAMS and Axis Bank, are providing this facility.
In the age of online transactions, you cannot expect the customer to visit a branch every time he needs to drop a cheque.
Tough rules. Subscribers need to make a minimum of four contributions in a year. This means four visits to the branch and keeping track of all those payments. Moreover, a minimum contribution of Rs 6,000 could be slightly high for very small investors to shell out.
Cheap? Not really. A back-of-the-envelope calculation shows that if you invest Rs 6,000 per annum (minimum investment required) in the NPS, the total quarterly charges, inclusive of opening the account, work out to be Rs 560 (9.33 per cent of Rs 6,000).
Thereafter, Rs 470 (7.8 per cent) is charged every year, excluding a fund management charge of 0.0009 per cent and other custodian charges. To lower the charges further to 2 per cent, one has to invest at least Rs 30,000 annually.
No premature withdrawals. Withdrawals are not allowed except for special cases. Even at the age of 60, you can only withdraw 60 per cent of the corpus as cash, and the rest is used to buy an annuity.
If you want to withdraw before you turn 60, you would need to buy immediate annuity with 80 per cent of the money accumulated. "This is a retirement-focused scheme. If we allow withdrawals at an early stage of the policy, it will not serve its purpose," says Rayalu.
Obviously, if the scheme has to shed this non-starter tag, it needs significant reform on many fronts.
Said Kanwar Vivek, managing director, Aditya Birla Money (a brokerage house) at the Outlook Money Pension Roundtable in March: "If you see the NPS, it's clear that unless there is some incentive for the intermediary in the scheme, it is a very difficult task to popularise it." Are the policymakers listening? Well, they would do better to.

Who owns my debt the hospital or collections?
I had some large hospital bills that I was making payments to. Unfortunately it was not enough for the hospital so I think they are sending me to collections. I just received a letter from a collection agency stating that if I didn't pay the debt in full in 30 days they would be assigned my debt and to remit payment to them. Does that mean they already own my debt or does the hospital still own it? I was wondering if it is to late to work it out with the hospital to pay it off and not with the collection agent?|||Hospitals normally will only offer payment terms that will pay off the bill within 3 to 6 months. They will turn the debt to a collections agency after that time even if you are making small payments. Hospitals and other medical facilities do not have the personnel to deal with processing longer term payment plans.

I work as an independent consultant providing advisory services. My pay is gross with no deductions for advisory services to my clients in my consulting business.
Specific questions are:
1) Where do I remit the employer/employee portion of Social Security and Medicare?

I tried blocking it, reporting as spam, but they somehow finds a way to keep sending me the same mail asking me to put my money in a scheme called LIS DEEPASTHAMBHAM PROJECT. Indian, it says. Can I sue the promoters for filling my inbox with junk? Or should I play along and try my luck? By the way, how can I remit payment to India?|||Email harvesting is big business everywhere and we all suffer from it. You are no different|||Don't even think about doing it, unless you are so rich that you don't mind losing money. The way that they keep sending you Emails is they just use a different Email address to send you the messages. How they find your Email address is simple, all they have to do is go to the member directory and type in any name or a partial name and they get a whole list of people or they could be purchasing an Email list from a company.(there are many sites that you may have signed up as a member or if you have bought something online) they sell your information to companies that in turn sell lists in bulk. It is very simple to get a persons Email address, you may consider removing yourself from any directories which you may be listed in, such as the Yahoo directory and when you join a site or make a purchase, be sure that you read their privacy policy to find out what could potentially happen to your personal information.|||I was quite keen when i saw 200% returns but when i did a search on the website, i saw this link www.lisdsp.org - which says the whole scheme is illegal.|||Web bots harvest e mail addresses from all sorts of sites, and then the addresses are sold in lists. Is the concentration of media ownership a threat to freedom and democracy?
The FCC was set up to promote the independence of the American media and to prevent concentration of media ownership.
However, under the present US administration the FCC's remit has been completely reversed and so media ownership is falling into fewer and fewer hands.
Is the concentration of media ownership like this a threat to open communiction?|||Any concentration of power is.|||The one benefit of large media ownership is they are less dependent on advertising revenue for survival and can actually be more critical of businesses.
Working in media relations for many years I've seen many abuses of journalistic powers. Blogs aren't really an answer either because they're largely opinion driven and don't have to answer to any kind of editorial control. It does serve to balance out traditional media but digging up angles that may have been ignored.
I think if a media company is part of a conglomerate the editorial department should be as far removed from the marketing parent company as possible and journalists should be guaranteed some sort of job protection for objective reporting.
But as someone has already said, we need learn how to interpret the news and consider more than one source for our information.|||I have to agree with you on this. We have to ask ourselves, "Who owns your brain?"
Your opinions are based on the information you receive. If the information is skewed, your opinions will be skewed. This Yahoo!Answers is fun, but I wouldn't consider it a serious platform for exchange of original intellectual thought. Seriously, if I didn't read books, I think my mind would turn to mush in the present media climate.|||Yes, because these organizations can pick and choose which stories they will cover and which ones they ignore. A prime example of that happening is with the Fox conglomerate. All the Fox news outlets have become essentially tabloids. Here are some suggestions to avoid providing information for scam artists.
If you get an email or pop-up message that asks for personal or financial information, do not reply. And don’t click on the link in the message, either. Legitimate companies don’t ask for this information via email. If you are concerned about your account, contact the organization mentioned in the email using a telephone number you know to be genuine, or open a new Internet browser session and type in the company’s correct Web address yourself. In any case, don’t cut and paste the link from the message into your Internet browser — phishers can make links look like they go to one place, but that actually send you to a different site.
Use anti-virus software and a firewall, and keep them up to date. Some phishing emails contain software that can harm your computer or track your activities on the Internet without your knowledge.
Anti-virus software and a firewall can protect you from inadvertently accepting such unwanted files. Anti-virus software scans incoming communications for troublesome files. Look for anti-virus software that recognizes current viruses as well as older ones; that can effectively reverse the damage; and that updates automatically.

Will Gay Marriage lead to a higher taxes remitted to California?

If government were reduced to its proper function of protecting life and property, we wouldn't care what people do. When the law favoring marriage is stretched to include various living arrangements of choice, there is a problem.|||absolutely yes!|||In theory, it would already have done so since anyone who registered as a domestic partnership had to already file as married at the state level.

Probably by crediting the funds to an agent in this country who either has funds on deposit in that country or has correspondents in that country from which the money eventually can be paid out from the final link in the chain. Or, if the bank you take the money to actually has a correspondent relationship with the bank where the money is being sent, they can credit the funds to that bank's account at their own bank and request that the other bank draw the funds out of that account and pay the money to the party that you're sending it to.
So if you go to Bank A and request that a wire transfer be made to a certain country, Bank A probably deposits the money to an account at their own bank in the name of Bank B, a correspondent of theirs who they know either has banking offices, correspondents, or funds on deposit in that country, instructing them that the funds are eventually to be paid to Bank C, D or whatever, the bank you requested the money be paid out at. Bank B would do similarly to Bank A until the last bank is finally reached. So, say when it gets to the final bank, that bank can take the money out of their account that they have with the previous bank in the chain to pay the party the money was sent to.
Just a guess, don't take it as gospel, but probably something like that. I did work in banknote trading for years, but that's cash. Did take orders for wire transfers, but didn't do any of the back office processing of them. I would presume if it were something like Western Union, it wouldn't work much differently, but being one company, there may be fewer links in the chain- the money would have to be deposited somewhere and eventually be taken out of an account at the final destination.|||It is a service for people who need to send money to other countries.
